  Job Description

The primary goal of the Landlord Outreach Specialist (LOS) is to identify, create, and sustain effective and innovative relationships with housing partners. The LOS supports the HOPWA community partners by providing housing opportunities to clients at AIDS Services of Austin. The LOS will collaboratively and strategically assess and expand housing stock to better support community partner agencies.  This work will help increase and diversify housing opportunities for families and individuals experiencing homelessness. 


  • 2 years' experience locating housing for households experiencing homelessness or other disadvantaged populations and/or
  • 2 years' experience working in property management, leasing, marketing, or sales.
  • Bachelor' degree preferred.


  • Conduct on-going community outreach and presentations to various housing property owners, landlords, community partners and potential supporters about housing assistance programs and "Housing First" strategies.   
  • Create and distribute marketing materials that explain housing assistance and stability programs.
  • Identify and recruit properties in Austin/Travis County and surrounding areas willing to lease to participants in various rental assistance programs, individuals experiencing homelessness, who may have barriers to housing such as criminal history, evictions, poor credit and/or minimal income.
  • Build partnerships with property owners/property managers to establish expedited access to low barrier housing opportunities.
  • Utilize knowledge of general property management practices, Fair Housing legislation, as well as policies and culture of local real estate trade organizations, i.e. Austin Apartment Association, Austin Board of Realtors, etc. and Public Housing Authority practices, including Housing Authority for the City of Austin and Travis County Housing Authority practices to be demonstrated by understanding of Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) processes, including navigating the Housing Assistance Payment (HAP) and Housing Quality Standard (HQS) processes and expectations.
  • Track and report efforts to recruit property owners/property managers to participate in low barrier housing programs and monitor units netted and maintained thru your work.
  • Maintain collaborative communication with partner agencies to remain informed on programs and changes to processes.
  • Exercise appropriate authority when needed using sound judgment; Uphold program and personnel policies and procedures while also supporting housing program staff.
  • Update community-wide database cataloging and describing potential housing opportunities, including real-time updates on vacancies.
