About WINGS:

WINGS is an after school education organization that helps improve the lives of at-risk elementary school age kids by developing their social and emotional (SE) skills - how to behave well, make good decisions, and build healthy relationships.

We serve approximately 100-140 students per school. We are not a drop-in program. Our kids, mentors, AmeriCorps members, and staff must commit to the program every day of the week for a full academic year (exceptions: holidays, vacation, sick days).

We seek exceptional candidates who are confident, organized, patient, resilient, creative, flexible, and fun. He/she must have a passion for kids and strong motivation to improve the lives of at-risk kids.

This is an AmeriCorps service position. AmeriCorps regulations only allow individuals to complete a maximum of four terms of service with a State or National AmeriCorps program (note: VISTA programs do not count against this total). To be eligible for this position you must not have exceeded the maximum of four terms of service.

  • Living allowance ($24,200, paid out bi-weekly throughout the year)
  • Education award ($5,815, upon successful completion of service)
    • Note: There is a limit on the value of education awards that an individual is allowed to receive. By law, an individual may not receive more than the aggregate (or total) value of two full time education awards.
  • Health coverage
  • Competitive workforce skills in leadership and social and emotional abilities

Service Description:

The individual will serve alongside the Program Coordinator and Coach to coach part-time college mentors and to ensure accurate implementation of our SEL curriculum.

WINGS for kids is committed to achieving a diverse, energized, high performing service force. Key to achieving this is developing and maintaining effective leaders, staff, and service members who treat all persons with dignity and respect, without regard to non-merit factors, such as race, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, religion, age, disability, political affiliation, marital or parental status, or military service. We strive to provide an environment free of sexual, racial, ethnic, religious, or other harassment.
