Communications Specialist – Job Announcement
Advocates for Basic Legal Equality, Inc. (ABLE) seeks a Communications Specialist to support all communication activities for ABLE and Legal Aid of Western Ohio, Inc. (LAWO). ABLE and LAWO provide free, high quality legal assistance to people living in poverty in western Ohio. The position reports to the Executive Director of ABLE and is located in ABLE’s Toledo office.
The Communications Specialist will:
Develop and implement communications strategies and activities in a collaborative environment, including maintaining a content calendar for websites and social media
Coordinate media relations
Write and edit articles and features for ABLE and LAWO websites and newsletters
Design and produce fundraising materials, annual reports, invitations, reports, and other materials.
Design and produce client materials and reports to donors and funders
Works across multiple departments and with various staff members to amplify our mission and the organizations’ accomplishments
Experience and Qualifications:
Experience or internship in communications and public and media relations, preferably with advocacy or nonprofit organization.
Excellent and demonstrable writing and editing skills
Ability to maintain brand standards and organizational identity
Project management and collaboration experience
Experience in working with a variety of audiences, including elected officials, community leaders, coalition partners, and the general public
Experience in managing online communications, marketing, and social media and raising social media presence.
Knowledge and experience in design and best practices in some or all of the following: promotional brochures, print ads, direct mail, websites, social media, brand strategy, and email marketing
Fluency in another language is desirable.
