Position Title: Digital Creative & Social Media Manager

Level: Manager

Status: Full-time, exempt

Location: Remote, Los Angeles

Reports To: Director of Communications

Salary Range: $50,000

POSITION SUMMARY

 

5 Gyres is seeking a talented and collaborative Digital Creative & Social Media Manager.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

This person will be responsible for creative assets required of the organization including graphic design, video editing, and print collateral. They will also be in charge of actively posting to 5 Gyres’ social media channels, maintaining consistency in posting schedule, and seeking out creative ways to engage in the digital space. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE

 

  • Design collateral assets for digital, print, and social media in line with organizational aesthetic and branding

  • Edit any internally produced video content for publication in line with our programmatic goals

  • Support in website design

  • Engage our growing social media communities on a daily basis with fun and creative posts

  • Activate our ambassador network digitally by directly engaging with them on social media

  • Support Director of Communications with creative thinking in social media engagement tactics

  • Bring an optimistic and fun attitude to the work of digital creation

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • 2-4 years of graphic design experience

  • 2 years of video editing experience

  • 1-2 years of social media management experience

  • Updated and current graphic design portfolio showcasing a range of design capabilities from one pagers, to pitch decks, to social media assets, to animations, to toolkits

  • High school diploma; bachelor’s degree preferred

  • 2-4 years relevant work experience

  • Ability to work on the Pacific Time Zone during normal business hours

  • Amination skills preferred

  • Be able and willing to look for additional projects when finished with assigned tasks and always be looking for innovative ways to create interesting content

  • Preferred: knowledge of and passion for environmental issues, ideally with a knowledge of plastic pollution



Communication Skills:

  • Must be able to communicate in a professional manner and be able to work with various personalities and work styles

  • Must have strong written communication skills and be able to proofread any final assets

  • Must be able to be succinct in communicating a thought or idea while also providing enough information to make informed decisions

 

Reasoning Ability: 

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills: 

  • High proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, Google Slides, and video editing software. Animation skills a plus.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly required to sit and use hands to operate telephone, type and operate computer and mouse.

  • The employee is frequently required to talk, hear, and bend and twist neck.

  • The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and rarely lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.

  • During program events, the employee may be required to walk long distances, stand for extended periods of time, and lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. 

 

WORK HOURS AND ENVIRONMENT

  • Employees at 5 Gyres typically work Monday to Friday, 8 hours a day, with some schedule flexibility.

  • Occasionally you may be expected to work evenings and/or weekends for the purposes of events, conferences and/or speaking engagements.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is usually in a typical office environment and/or working from home.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but occasionally noisy.

  • During program events, the employee may be in a large outdoor or indoor environment with many people, in which the noise level may be high.
