Position Status:            Exempt, Full-Time, Occasional evening/weekends required

Location:                        Communities In Schools of Peninsula

Reports to:                    Executive Director

Job Summary:

Communities In Schools of Peninsula (CISP) is part of the nation’s leading dropout prevention organization, Communities In Schools. CISP has been rapidly growing to meet the ever-increasing needs of the kids we serve, and we need to increase our funding base. The CISP Development Director is responsible for planning, identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and nurturing relationships which provide financial support for the organization, focusing on annual giving, special events and corporate and foundation relationships. The CISP Development Director is also responsible for meeting annual revenue goals by maintaining and growing existing revenue while creating new sources by developing prospects and stewarding individual, corporate, foundation and other supporters.

Essential Functions:

Grow financial support for CISP through the development and implementation of a comprehensive fund development plan in alignment with the strategic plan, focusing the talents of the CISP Board of Directors through coaching and mentoring. 

Implement, coordinate and manage an annual individual giving program to ensure resources for the agency’s ongoing programs and services, and develop/execute customized cultivation plans for donors as appropriate.

Conduct resource development support activities including grant writing, donor data management, and major event support. Manage grant processes to include research, tracking timelines, writing proposals, and submitting funder reports.

Develop, maintain and deepen corporate and foundation relationships, and coordinate corporate sponsorship of events. Manage regular updates of constituent and prospect information and update CISP Executive Director as requested.

Develop, implement and oversee planned giving strategies.


Lead and support the activities of the CISP Resource Development Committee and exhibit a culture of philanthropy which provides the highest level of respect and stewardship for our supporters. Create and maintain meaningful reports for the Board and Resource Development Committee.  

 Develop fundraising campaigns and all supporting documents and materials.

 Thank individual donors who give $200 or more by telephone within 48 hours, and send a thank you letter. Thank grantors via a thank you letter within seven days of gift, and complete all necessary contracts or MOU’s as needed within seven days.

Provide fundraising training, collateral, and support to Board of Directors and staff as needed.

Other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications:

Education: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, business or other related areas required
  • Master’s Degree and/or CFRE a plus

 

Experience:

  • Five to seven years fundraising for nonprofits and/or community organizations.
  • Development and management of wide-ranging fund development strategies, including conducting in person visits and solicitations and managing relationships utilizing a donor database.
  • Work with Board members to cultivate prospective supporters, including evidence of successful solicitation of high-end gifts.
  • Public speaking and presentations for small to mid-sized audiences.

 

Demonstrated Skills:

  • Competency with applicable computer hardware and software as needed: Microsoft Office Suite, knowledge of fundraising software (ie. Little Green Light), and nonprofit financial statements.
  • Exceptional relationship skills. Able to foster an environment of teamwork and possess strong leadership qualities, as well as the ability to make effective recommendations to the CISP staff and Board of Directors.
  • Grant writing and prospect research
  • Must be comfortable working in a small non-profit office setting, dealing with a variety of positions, personalities and skill levels, and comfortable managing multiple priorities.
  • Organized, efficient, detail and process oriented
  • Highly entrepreneurial, multi-tasking, self-starter
  • Ability to work independently and monitor performance objectives
  • Excellent written, oral, presentation, sales and professional skills

 

Requirements:

  • Pass criminal background check.
  • Ability to work evening and weekends and attend meetings as needed.
  • Access to reliable transportation and able to travel and meet with constituents in various settings.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
