Blue Ventures develops locally led approaches to marine management that benefit people and nature alike. By listening and responding to basic needs, we design our models to catalyse and sustain marine conservation, unlocking the potential of coastal communities to manage their resources. We work in places where the ocean is vital to local cultures and economies, and are committed to advancing the rights of small-scale fishers throughout the coastal tropics.
We are currently recruiting a Field Scientist at our expedition site in Timor-Leste. The position is paid and for a minimum period of 12 months with the possibility for renewal.
The primary role of the Field Scientist is for developing and implementing the expedition volunteer science training programme, teaching and assisting in providing a high level of client care to our volunteers. The role also involves planning, coordinating and participating in all expedition research and community outreach activities carried out on site, under the management and guidance of the Expedition Manager, and contributing to the conservation goals of Blue Ventures and our partners. The role involves working closely with the Conservation Officer and the conservation team in the UK to identify and develop research areas, as well as responsibility for collection of data and the analysis and reporting of research results.
Additional duties are shared by all site staff and include supporting the day to day running of the project and its volunteers, maintaining site rules and regulations, and regular communication with research staff in Timor-Leste and London.
You will thrive in a remote and sometimes challenging environment that is fast-paced, collegiate and ambitious, and should be able to demonstrate experience of working in such conditions and solving complex problems in challenging situations.
Blue Ventures is a fast growing and mission-driven social enterprise, offering excellent opportunities for further professional development.
Applicants should apply online via Blue Venture's website by 3rd July June 2019.
