Through the transformative power of debate, NAUDL is giving students the skills to lead and succeed in the 21st century and leveling the playing field for those who reside in low-income communities. As the leader of the urban debate network in the United States, NAUDL creates opportunities for students to participate in debate each year. In partnership with the network of leagues in major cities across the country, NAUDL provides students with high profile signature education experiences, including the annual Debater of the Year search and the Financial Literacy Tournament. NAUDL also creates opportunities for students to earn college scholarships and recognition through competitions such as the Urban Debate National Championship and continues to support urban debate alumni through programs such as its alumni ambassador networking opportunities for college students. Ever seeking to expand the reach of urban debate, NAUDL actively works to develop new leagues, having done so most recently in Washington, DC, and Miami.
Currently NAUDL programming reaches nearly 11,000 students at 679 urban schools across 22 chapters. NAUDL has the ambitious but reachable goal of serving more than 20,000 students annually by 2023.
