Based in San Francisco’s Tenderloin District, the Vietnamese Youth Development Center (VYDC) is a multi-service agency offering services in employment and leadership training, education support and advocacy as well as individual and family counseling for immigrant and low-income youth and their families. The Center’s programs help to divert youth by providing constructive activities that impact their world increase their individual and cultural pride as well as build community spirit. Founded over 40 years ago, VYDC serves over 500 young people of all background each year.
The Program Coordinator is responsible for supporting youth between the ages of 14 to 17 years old to successfully complete paid work placements during the school year and summer. The Mayor’s Youth Employment and Education Program (MYEEP) at VYDC provide subsidized (paid) employment opportunities to over 100 high school aged youth each year. The goal of the program is to support the positive development of youth by engaging them in meaningful employment, career, leadership, and community involvement opportunities. Ongoing services include employment readiness workshops, employment placement and referrals and support to resources and other programs.
Conduct outreach, intake, participant selection and assessment.
Conduct outreach and orientation for worksite partners.
Develop and facilitate employment orientation and employment readiness training curriculum.
Conduct worksite placement.
Monitor and support participant at worksite placements.
Approve and collect participant timecards and payroll documentation.
Monitor school progress and attendance and refer participants to relevant services.
Troubleshoot high volume of participant needs by identifying appropriate services
Maintain participant records, progress reports, case notes, and evaluations.
Conduct outreach to youth in the community, schools, fairs, events, etc.
Refer participants to relevant services as needed.
Complete and submit monthly internal and external reports through required reporting systems.
Attend grantor meeting, program training, and professional development training.
Participate and attend agency and program meetings and agency-wide events.
And other duties as assigned by Direct Supervisor.
KNOWLEDGE AND QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of two-year-college or bachelor degree in related field.
Experience and familiarity with youth employment or workforce development area.
Minimum of 1-year experience in community or youth programs preferred.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both one-on-one and in groups.
Self-starting, self-motivated and able to work within a team and on multiple tasks.
Knowledge of services and programs for children, youth and families in San Francisco.
Strong passion for working with low-income children, youth and families.
Fingerprinting and TB background check required.
