The Camden Shipyard and Maritime Museum in Camden N.J. is looking for a creative individual to restore and operate a classic 30 foot, wooden sailboat (cutter) in conjunction with ongoing activities of Urban BoatWorks, our in-house, small boat building program. The Museum may be able to provide housing accommodation and office space/services with this position. Rip Tide, was built in Camden in 1935 by the famous yacht builder John Trumpy and is in reasonable shape and fitted with a new electric engine. This individual would be expected to oversee the restoration of the sailboat using this process as an educational tool for local youth. The restored boat would be berthed and sailed in the Delaware River as a good will ambassador for Camden, N.J. and utilized for many Museum/boat shop classes and activities such as Urban Trekkers and Sea Scouts, etc. Rip Tide comes with free boat storage and dockage. The individual would be expected to seek grants (Rip Tide is eligible for grants such as a N.J. Historic Trust grant ) and/or develop a fund raising program to cover salary and expenses. The Museum is located in South Camden, a former ship building center and an inner city, mixed use neighborhood revitalizing under the aegis of The Heart of Camden, Inc, a local community action organization.

The successful applicant would have an A.S. degree and significant sailing/water safety experience as well as experience building and/or restoring wooden boats. Teaching experience would be a plus.
