Overview: A community services based, multi-cultural, non-profit agency located in Covina, CA is seeking an experienced Accounting Supervisor to join its Finance Team. This position reports to the Assistant Finance Director.
Job Summary: Perform multiple duties related to accounting functions of the agency within the established deadlines. This position is accountable for the technical tasks necessary to process, balance, analyze, and maintain all financial data for the association including payroll/benefits, contracts reimbursements/compliance, general ledger, accounts payable, and accounts receivable. This position is also responsible for maintaining accounting records in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and in conformity to non-profit accounting and in compliance with the agency and government regulations. This position works very closely with the Assistant Finance Director to ensure timely financial reporting.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
Education: Must be a graduate of an accredited college or university with a Bachelor degree in accounting or a Bachelor degree in Business Administration with emphasis in Accounting or higher
Years of Experience: 5+ years of non-profit accounting working experience
Computer Skills: MIP Abila or SAGE MIP accounting software experience
Strong proficient in MS Office Suite with Intermediate or Advance Level in Microsoft Excel
Must have strong understanding and application of non-profit accounting, fund accounting, GAAP, including accrual and prepaid
Must have strong understanding of Federal, State, County, City government regulations as it relates to the funding sources
Ability to read, interpret, understand, apply, and translate contracts/budget requirements & regulations from funding sources to your daily work
Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply Federal internal control standards published by the OMB and related grant management practices or similar highly regulated process with complex internal control standards
Develops extensive knowledge of statutory and GAAP accounting principles. Researches complex statutory and GAAP accounting issues and applies those principles to new and unusual transactions.
Demonstrated knowledge of current payroll tax law and tax reporting.
Some evenings and weekends are mandatory
Must possess reliable operating transportation for off-site meetings, trainings, bank deposits, errands, and fundraising events
Must be able to lift, carry, move 25 lbs
Must have strong time management skills as you need to prioritize and handle multiple priorities and projects simultaneously
Candidate must have a "roll up your sleeves” attitude and makes him/herself available to meet all department and agency deadlines
Strong problem-solving skills, with extreme level of detail and accuracy required
Someone who is a self-starter, not afraid to research and start a project from scratch
Must be self-motivated, demonstrated initiative, dependable, reliable, responsible
Must hold highest integrity and exhibit high degree of confidential professionalism
Ability to work under pressure and experience working in a very fast-paced, high-volume, complex changing work environment
Ability to work independently with little supervision and make professional decisions
Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively interact with the accounting team, all levels of management and employees, as well as external auditors, donors, clients, etc.

Must be passionate about learning and growing in the non-profit accounting field and with the agency
Maintains a work environment free of harassment and hostility and adhere to agency’s policies and procedures
Performs related duties as required or assigned.
The incumbent in this position has supervisory responsibility.
The working environment for this position is an office that is mostly clean and comfortable. It may include some minor annoyances such as noise, odors, drafts, etc. The incumbent is in a non-confined office-type setting in which he or she is free to move about at will
In the course of performing this job, the incumbent typically spends time standing, walking, sitting, carrying, lifting (25-30lbs) and cleaning.
