We have built on our portfolio of early learning centers to expand this transformative culture into a birth to eighth grade school composed of an Early Childhood and Elementary School. The school is creating unprecedented collaboration between early childhood and elementary educators as well as family support programs. In addition, it will provide foundational exposure during the earliest years of life to our culture of high expectations and academic excellence
Christopher House is now looking for a full-time nurse for our early childhood program. We are looking for someone who is dedicated to working with children and families in a community health setting.
Responsibilities: Ensure the health requirements for all programs are met according to federal Head Start and state Child Care Licensing standards.
Provide supervision for the Christopher House Elementary school nurse.
Act as an advocate for children and families to the agency, the community and professional field. Provide parents with training and resources that will enable them to act as advocates for their own children and families.
Provide support to the early childhood and elementary schools. Support teachers with health needs of children, including delivery of student medications, attending to sick children, and attending to injuries. Observe, screen and evaluate children for health concerns.
Visit classrooms on a weekly basis, plan for surveillance of injuries and illnesses that commonly affect infants and toddlers.
Actively seek to align programs with best practices or standards for high quality. Ensure on time and accurate collection of data using organization’s database and/or funder databases.
Analyze data with team members to determine how to explain information related to findings and improvement strategies. Report findings to supervisor; make recommendations for improving quality of services and/or department’s outcomes system; ensure successful implementation department strategies.
Qualifications: Two to five years’ experience in pediatric nursing, preferably with experience in community or school settings. Bilingual skills in Spanish and a Type 73 certification are a plus. Obtain and maintain a certificate in CPR and First Aid while employed with Christopher House.
Education: Current licensing as a Registered Nurse is required. Acceptable degrees from an accredited school include: An Associate Degree in Nursing or a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or health related discipline. BSN and Pediatric Nurse Certification is preferred.
