Delivery of high quality child and family services as defined by the Head Start Performance Standards, State Licensing Rules, program work plans, program goals, and other funding rules and regulations. Maintain quality birth to five environments with attention to safety and health prevention measures. Assist the Teaching Team in providing the best possible classroom experience for all children.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (REASON POSITION EXISTS IS TO PERFORM THESE FUNCTIONS)
1. Promote children’s growth and development by providing responsive care, effective teaching practices, and an organized learning environment.
2. Utilize Creative Curriculum to fidelity to provide quality, developmentally appropriate indoor and outdoor learning experiences in alignment with the ELOF and school readiness goals.
3. Use positive guidance strategies to support social-emotional and behavioral health.
4. Use routines, including hand washing and transitions between activities, as opportunities for strengthening development, learning and skill growth.
5. Identify emergent or recurring developmental, medical, oral or mental health concerns.
1. Follow Universal Precautions in the event of exposure to blood/bodily fluids. Follow posted diapering, toileting, and handwashing procedures.
2. Complete daily health checks to identify symptoms of illness requiring exclusion. Remove child from direct contact with other children and contact parents to pick up children who have emergent symptoms.
3. Properly store and administer medication. Complete medication administration training as needed.
4. Assist children in brushing their teeth at least one time daily after meals and facilitate swish and swallow.
5. Ensure classrooms, equipment and materials are cleaned and sanitized according to policies and procedures.
1. Ensure children are supervised at all times and never left alone with volunteers.
2. Ensure children are signed in and out of class and bus and released only to authorized adults.
3. Perform classroom and playground safety check, if assigned.
4. Maintain appropriate ratios and group size at all times.
1. Ensure culturally and linguistically appropriate materials are available in classrooms.
2. Provide high quality, supportive environments and tiered supports, as outlined in the Pyramid Model.
1. Provide family-style meal service with sufficient time for children to eat.
2. Sit with children to provide supervision, socialization and choking prevention during meals.
3. Follow food safety guidelines for all food service.
4. Ensure children have access to safe drinking water throughout the program day.
PARENT and FAMILY ENGAGEMENT
1. Support parents as primary educators of their child.
2. Welcome parents into facilities during program hours and provide opportunities for parents to volunteer.
3. Encourage parent participation and invite parents to join meal-times.
4. Engage parents in site parent committees for each center and support Policy Council representatives.
DOCUMENTATION and COMMUNICATION
1. Document services provided into appropriate data base systems.
2. Ensure child and family files are complete and up-to-date.
3. Meet federal, state and program documentation requirements with accurate, objective, complete, timely and well organized records.
4. Participate in on-going communication, promote problem solving and conflict resolution within assigned team(s).
5. Facilitate communication with others by using available technologies (e.g., phone, fax, e-mail, file sharing)
6. Establish consistent weekly schedule including time for team communication.
7. Collaborate with team members to identify approaches to solving issues, develop follow-up plans, and prepare for home visits and other family contacts.
8. Ensure family confidentiality by limiting conversations about families and access to their records to those directly involved in providing services to them.
SITE ASSISTANT (if applicable)
1. Perform various clerical duties including, but not limited to word processing, filing, copying, collating, comb-binding, laminating, data entry, scanning, etc.
2. Effectively operate multi-line telephone and message systems. Take complete messages for site staff.
3. Operate computer and email system.
4. Complete work orders within designated timelines.
5. Perform additional duties as assigned by Area Manager.
BUS MONITOR (if applicable)
1. Complete required bus monitor training before assignment to a vehicle. Training includes: child boarding and exiting procedures, sign in/out form, child pick up and drop off procedures, child restraint systems, responding to emergencies, emergency evacuation procedures and transportation policies.
2. Receive direction from the Bus Driver to ensure a safe transportation system.
3. Ride bus to and from class and on field trips: greet children and parents, share information, perform health check, and monitor children’s behavior for safety at all times.
4. Monitor emergency information changes and notify team of those changes.
INDIVIDUAL AND TEAM EXPECTATIONS
1. Attend staff meetings, center meetings, and/or other workshops/meetings as notified
2. Maintain a positive attitude regarding ORCCA and all its programs along with the Head Start program and philosophy
3. Model behaviors that demonstrate an understanding, acceptance and welcoming of diversity
4. Maintain respect and positive communication regarding all children, families and staff.
5. Maintain confidentiality of client and staff information.
6. Maintain open, two-way communication with staff
7. Accept suggestions and guidance from supervisor and other management staff
8. Seek feedback on job performance and evaluate suggestions and guidance to incorporate in performance
9. Commit to further training. Develop an individual training plan using program tools, as appropriate.
10. Communicate with supervisor regarding any needed changes or concerns with work schedule.
11. Adhere to agency procedures as a mandated child abuse reporter
12. Regular attendance is a requirement of the position.

QUALIFICATION AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
1. High School diploma or equivalent required.
2. CDA credential preferred.
1. Must be enrolled in the Oregon Department of Education-Child Care Division Central Background Registry at time of hire and update it as required.
2. Oregon Food Handler’s card or ServSafe® Food Safety Certification (prior to meal service) within 30 days of hire and update it as required.

2. Proof of automobile liability insurance @ $100,000/300,000 liability limits and maintain such limits.
