Grants Manager

Junior Achievement of Northern California

Status: Full-time

About the Role : Reporting to the VP of Development, the Grants Manager is instrumental in meeting Junior Achievement’s annual contributed revenue goals, with a focus on raising funds through foundation, corporate and private foundation grants. As a key member of JA’s development team, the Grants Manager is passionate about the mission of Junior Achievement and its programs, and can effectively communicate the role financial literacy, entrepreneurship and workforce readiness education improves economic opportunity for young people. The ideal candidate is an exceptional storyteller with a keen editorial eye for detail; is self-directed; able to manage people, projects and deadlines; and thrives in a fast-paced, busy environment.

Job Responsibilities

Grant Writing

Manage and conduct the full range of activities needed to develop persuasive proposals for grant requests, including the writing of narratives, preparation of budgets, and development of final materials for submittal, ensuring all deadlines are met

  • Support the VP of Development in the preparation of major grant proposals through research, writing, proofreading, development of attachments and work samples, among other tasks.
  • Oversee and prepare grant narrative and financial reports for all grants received by JA NorCal
  • Work in partnership with contract Grants Consultant, and program department to help write, edit and submit timely grant requests and reports, maintaining files, forecasts, budgets and reporting.
  • Maintain a proactive role in the identification, cultivation, solicitation and tracking of individual, corporate and foundation funding opportunities.

Prospect Research

  • Manage the research and tracking of institutional funding prospects from various sources that match the strategic priorities of JA NorCal

Program Data, Measurement & Impact

  • Acquire and maintain detailed knowledge and understanding of the organization and its programs to develop persuasive grant proposals, grant reports, and presentations demonstrating impact.

Administration

  • Write timely acknowledgment letters to funders
  • Process grant agreements received
  • Manage institutional relationships and data in JA NorCal’s CRM database BCRM

Plus other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 3 years’ experience in grant writing (• Knowledge of STEM education programs or a related field. Previous experience writing about K-12 education and the impact of JA type programs is a definitive plus.
  • Knowledge of Bay Area philanthropic community, and private and corporate foundations
  • Demonstrated success in securing grant awards, with an exceptional ability to write compelling narratives and to share those narratives in compelling ways on the page
  • Excellent attention to detail with an ability to develop acknowledgment letters, grant proposals and report packages that are virtually error free
  • Outstanding communication skills (strong grammar, proofreading, creative writing, word processing)
  • Excellent research and analytical skills
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat, plus familiarity with relational databases
  • Demonstrated track record of setting and achieving goals
  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple tasks under pressure of deadlines
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multiple internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to work effectively with people of diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Experience with a database system, Blackbaud experience is preferred.
