  Job Description

Position Details: Reporting to the Kitchen Ready Executive Chef (Executive Chef)), the Kitchen Ready Teaching Chef (Teaching Chef) is responsible for assisting with the preparation of meals for weekly lunch service and other GO events including catering, fundraising, graduation, recruitment, information session and community events. This position collaborates with the Program Manager on the training curriculum to ensure training cycle dates, hours and content successfully provides students for jobs in the culinary industry.  The Teaching Chef, in conjunction with the Program Manager, leads students through weekly lunch service, pop-up dinners, and other community feeding events that provide students with real-world work experience.  The Teaching Chef is also responsible for providing leadership, mentoring and other support to students and utilizing student assessment and program evaluation tools to gauge student development and provide feedback to improve student performance, existing curriculum and training strategies and implementation.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides leadership, mentoring and other support to Kitchen Ready students and past program graduates.
  • Work with Program Manager to lead students through preparation and service for weekly lunch service and pop-up dinners as well as other community feeding events providing real-world work experience for students.
  • Collaborate with the Program Manager and Training and Placement team utilizing student assessment and program evaluation tools to track student progress and provide feedback and guidance to students. Student Case Management responsibilities.
  • Provide instruction to students on proper use of kitchen equipment to ensure that all safety policies and procedures are followed and chance of injury is minimized.
  • Responsible for emphasizing life skills throughout all trainings.
  • Assist Program Manager with preparation of meals for weekly lunch service and pop-up dinners as well as other GO events including catering, fundraising, graduation, recruitment, information session and community events.
  • Collaborate with the Program Manager and other kitchen staff to ensure flexibility within the curriculum for other non-culinary specific trainings, service projects and support functions.
  • Utilize student assessment and program evaluation tools; use feedback to improve the curriculum and implementation.
  • Ensure all policies and procedures are followed to foster and reinforce a culture of safe workplace behaviors to minimize the likelihood of injury.
  • Provide assistance, as needed, for catering events.
  • Responsible for inventory management including quality control, tracking and reporting to ensure that the inventory is kept up-to-date and related costs are reporting accurately to Finance.
  • Assist with recruitment of students by talking to community partners or hosting potential students at KR pop up dinners and/or other KR community events.
  • Perform administrative duties including attending staff meetings, accurate tracking and reporting of expenses, time entry, providing exemplary customer service and other necessary tasks.
  • Responsible for tracking and management of grant funds to ensure proper utilization.
  • Ensure that GO trainings have clear safety focus, and follow policies and procedures to minimize the likelihood of injury.
  • Participate in GO staff safety trainings.
  • Help foster a culture of safety by following safe workplace behaviors and reinforcing these behaviors with your co-workers, peers and students.
