Position Summary

The Development Director works closely with the Executive Director, and the Board of Directors to coordinate and help implement the initiatives described in Clinica Romero’s Fund Development Plan, as well as other development activities that may arise.  Clinica Romero’s Fund Development Plan includes several initiatives aimed at encouraging government entities, foundations, corporations and individuals to become actively involved, volunteer time donate goods and services or provide financial support.  The Development Director will also manage activities related to the marketing of Clinica Romero, including electronic and print media coordination.


Specific responsibilities include:

  • Handles all grant writing efforts and identified potential funding streams. At least 50% of the Community Relations/Development Director is focused on grant writing, if not more.
  • The FY budget goal for grants and foundations is used to set a benchmark for year
  • Ensures reporting for grants are completed on time and in compliance.
  • Serves as a spokes person on behalf of the CMOAR with the direction of the Executive Director and Board of Directors. 
  • Researching and procuring government, foundation, corporate and individual contributions through the design, organization and timely submission of grant proposals and all applicable forms and attachments.
  • Responding to all Clinica Romero telephone calls from individuals requesting more information about Clinica Romero, donor information, and/or volunteer information.  Messages will either be forwarded to the Executive Director, when appropriate, or responded to as soon as possible by the Community Relations/ Development Director.
  • Developing and maintaining a call log that captures specific information on every individual who is sent information or who is interested in getting involved in any way (note: this call log is part of the contact database referenced in the next bullet point);
  • Developing and maintaining a current contact database (using MS Excel and other software) that tracks the full contact information (including email addresses), dates of contact, types of contact, and level of involvement for every person responding to any type of Clinica Romero outreach;
  • Coordinating the printing and/or distribution (including mailings) of all Clinica Romero print communications;
  • Managing the planning of a large variety of event-oriented development activities, including: staffing events committees and coordinating volunteer involvement; preparing and managing event budgets and timelines; scheduling event committee meetings, sending preparation materials, and taking notes at meetings of such committees; soliciting in-kind donations of goods and services from vendors and volunteers; tracking all in-kind and cash donations received by each individual and by activity; negotiating and managing contracts with paid and volunteer vendors; and following up after activity with appropriate thank-you notes;
  • Supervises the Grant Writer/Marketing Coordinator
  • And other duties as assigned


 Position Requirements

  •  Bachelors Degree preferred and at least three years experience working with community members
  •  The Development Director must have demonstrated telephone skills, organizational skills, verbal/written communications, and a working understanding of MS Word and MS Excel.
  • The Development Director must have a four-year college degree, or equivalent experience that demonstrates ability to draft well-written communications, and communicate effectively with a wide variety of people.  Education or experience in nonprofit fundraising, communications or public relations is preferred. 
  • Personal transportation for local travel is required, as the Community Relations/ Development Director will be responsible for taking and picking up donated and purchased materials that support development activity. 
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) and demonstrated sensitivity/ understanding of Latino cultures preferred.
