The Lupus Foundation of America, Inc. is the only nationwide voluntary organization exclusively serving the entire lupus community including persons with lupus, their families, physicians, researchers, and the general public. Our mission is to improve the diagnosis and treatment of lupus, support individuals and families affected by the disease, increase awareness of lupus among health professionals and the public, and find the causes and cure.
The Nurse Manager, Patient Navigation, Support and Community, working on-site at LFA’s headquarters in Washington, DC, supports the mission by responding to constituent inquiries and requests for resources and support, supervises three health educators located across the country who are connected via a database, and coordinates LFA’s online community efforts in conjunction with an external vendor.
The Nurse Manager, Patient Navigation, Support and Community serves as the main contact between the health educators, LFA internal teams and external partners, and works with LFA’s data manager to ensure that the health educator database is working in cooperation with the organization’s data collection needs. This individual is a liaison across departments, maintains knowledge of current research, and participates in developing, updating and presenting health education content.
Principal responsibilities include the following:
Responds to the LFA inquiries through various means of communication with information and referrals to appropriate sources. Responses often require research, and ongoing review of medical journals and other relevant sources.
Learns and masters the use of the web based data management system (Salesforce platform) and oversees the LFA health educator team to organize and manage the online resource.
Creates standard operating procedures to ensure consistency in support across the organization and makes recommendations to Vice President, Education and Research for refining operational policies, systems and forms for answering inquiries.
Remains current on lupus-related research and issues impacting patients and caregivers and works with the National Resource Center on Lupus director to create resource and health education content.
Researches Internet, scientific organization literature, government and legal publications, and appropriate medical information materials for new developments and relevant lupus related medical, financial and disability information for use in referrals and inquiries.
Collaborates with the Director of Data, Analytics & Operations to ensure coordination, effective interaction and mapping between the health educator database and the organizations constituent management system
Attends and/or conducts public education programs both in and out of state, as needed. Serves as a health education expert for the organization for web based activities and programs.
Participates as an active member of the LFA Education Committee and attends other meetings, conferences and training courses as needed.

Must have demonstrated management experience.
Fluency in English. Fluency in Spanish a PLUS.
Ability to work effectively in customer service oriented environment.
Self-starter who works well both independently and as part of a team.
Superior interpersonal skills and ability to respond to inquiries with empathy and understanding.
Capable of clear and effective communication in both verbal and written form.
Demonstrated computer skills and knowledge of both Internet and traditional health resources.
Experience with Qualtics Survey Software, Salesforce and/or Blackbaud products a plus.
Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field is required.
RN and or BSN preferred.
Other medical professional with an advanced degree (NP, PA) will be considered.
